Summer Events & Family Update

October 30th, 2008

We are glad to announce we are moved and love our new house.  It has been a busy summer as we prepared our old house for sale and anxiously awaited for our new house to be completed.

I would like to  share with you events we attended over the summer.  (Please see photos under media section in the folder Summer 2008).

July 11, 2008 - The City of Brook Park, Ohio Flags of Honor - Traveling flag exhibit to memorialize those who have lost their lives in the Iraqi and Afghanistan. The opening ceremony and presentation of the flags was attended by many Gold Star families from NE Ohio.

July 13, 2008 Healing Field - The Field of Honor - The Healing Field program started out as a way to commemorate the lives of those lost to us on September 11, 2001. These fields are displayed for the purpose of promoting and supporting charitable causes in making the flag of the United Sates of America available for patriotic, educational and charitable purposes.  On the one-year anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy a symbolic field spontaneously emerged.  This event grew into today’s Healing Field and Field of Honor programs.  They are a symbol of freedom, liberty, honor and respect for the ideals and principles symbolized by the flag of the

United States of America.  http://healingfield.org/akron/August 5, 2008 Medal of Honor Wall Dedication, Sunst Hill Cemetery, Jackson Township, OH  - the third wall which contains Heath’s portrait etched in black granite was dedicated at this ceremony.September 11, 2008, Quinn and Rose Radio Show,  Scott’s 9-11 remembrance was read on syndicated radio and featured on their website homepage.

September 15, 2008 Melissa greets Vice Presidential Candidate Governor Sarah Palin at the Akron Canton Airport.  The event received high media attention and Melissa was on the front page of newspapers through out the state, TV and radio. She loved meeting Gov. Sarah and Todd Palin and gave her one of Heath’s memorial wristbands which you can see them wearing at rallys across America.

September 19, 2008 White House Luncheon and Tour with Former Mayor Janet Creighton - We had a wonderful invitation by former Canton City Mayor Janet Creighton to have lunch with her in the West Wing.  It was great to see her and catch up.  She loves her new job with the President and we are all so proud of her.  She gave us a wonderful tour of the White campus and it was a great experience for Asthon, Chandler, Melissa and myself.

September 20, 2008 National Time of Remembrance at Washington Monument - The purpose of the Time of Remembrance is to bring together the families of America’s fallen in Iraq and

Afghanistan and to acknowledge their  sacrifice. Families come together from across the country.  This tribute, held on the grounds of the

Washington

Monument, honors those who have died in service to their country and the families they left behind. We connected with Mr. Jim Riviera whose son is buried by Heath at Arlingotn.  Both served together in the 2/3 and were killed weeks apart in 2006. http://www.remember.gov/tor/
